Three years ago (April 2008), the communities in in the vicinity of Bukit Gasing stood out in the rain to voice their opposition to proposed development on Bukit Gasing (KL-side). This time, we had glorious weather for the families and friends that came together for the Family Day.

It was a day for adults and children to have fun and show that they are still unhappy about DBKL’s refusal to hear their concerns for their safety. They gathered to review information on activities that many had taken part in the past in opposing irresponsible and unsafe development planned for Bukit Gasing. Children were able to participate in colouring competition.  Both adults and children also took up to drawing posters to show their concerns and love for Bukit Gasing. Uncle Button was on hand to provide children with balloon sculpting and keep many children happy whilst their parents chatted with friends and neighbours. Some came with cakes and snacks that were shared. Many came with the Save Bukit Gasing T-shirts and those that didn’t have one came to snap up the limited supplies of T-shirt and tote bags available.

We also had visits from our elected respresentatives (Adun Edward Lee (Bukit Gasing), YB Hee Loy Sian (MP PJ Selatan) and our area councillor, Derek Fernandaz. There were also  visitors from outside the immediate vicinity of Bukit Gasing. In all, there were more than 100 peoplet that came to show their support.

The day ended with awards of prizes for the art competition and lucky draw, followed by a group photo with posters and shouts of Save Bukit Gasing. We will continue with our opposition to irresponsible, unsafe and environmentally damaging development on an already stressed and over developed Bukit Gasing area.

The fight for justice, transparency and responsible planning authorities will continue.  The day shows we can do it with laughter.

Note:  Recent news reports stated that Gasing Meridian has tabled claims for damages against applicants to the Judicial Review subsequent to High Court ruling in favour of DBKL and Gasing Meridian.  Do read theHigh Court Judge Mahadev Shankar judgement against Gasing Heights Sdn Bhd (associate company of Gasing Meridian) in August 1996, when they sued 7 applicants for a Judicial Review for damages of RM 34.8 million. In essence, the judge had ruled Gasing Heights claims as not having reasonable cause and an abuse of court process.
